The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is urging the public to provide it with intelligence that will aid and promote compliance with the various tax laws and curb tax evasion.
In a press release the GRA said it recently established an Intelligence Unit. The objective of the Unit is to provide the GRA with up-to-date, high quality intelligence that will enable it to identify and control risks presented during its daily operations. “The aim of intelligence is to increase revenue and promote a climate of compliance among traders and importers,” the release said.
The GRA said the use of information is a critical component when dealing with non-compliance with its various statutes since it allows for more targeted activities and at the same time “rewards taxpayers by not subjecting them to any form of scrutiny.” The GRA said persons in possession of information on tax evasion can call the Unit at telephone number 225-6687.
