Georgetown Cricket Club and Hikers ‘A’ teams were set to contest the men’s final when the curtains come down on the Noble House sponsored Goals Galore handicap indoor hockey tournament this evening at the at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Both teams have been in top form so far in the competition and will head on a collision course this evening.
Hikers ‘A’ swept aside Western Dragons 12- 8 after the Dragons started with a handicap of eight goals.
Robert France led the scoring with four goals while Shane Samuels, Jerry Bell and Alex Gouveia scored two goals each and Devin Munroe one.
GCC ‘A’ also proved too strong for their ‘B’ team by winning 9-5 (handicap 3 for the ‘B’ team).
Kevin Spencer scored a hat trick while Alan Fernandes, Devin Hooper and Orland Semple had one goal each. Last year’s champs Old Fort humbled Carib Degenerates 16-8 lead by Aderemi Simon who scored eight goals and two each for Gavin Hope and Jason de Santos and one from Chris Low-Koan.
James Mentore scored for Degenerates who had a seven-goal handicap.
In the ladies competition, GCC Tigers crushed Hikers ‘B’ 10-4 with Tricia Woodroffe scoring three, Sonia Jardine and Kerensa two each and Grenette Gordon, Tiffany Solomon and Carol Cain one apiece.
Cora Towler netted a double in Hikers ‘A’ side’s victory over Old Fort ‘B’ Maria Munroe and Avonda James supported with one goal each while Teon Joaquin scored for Old Fort. In the results of Wednesday’s matches Jerry Bell with seven goals led the Hikers to a 23-8 win over Degenerates.
Robert France blasted home six goals, Shane Samuels five and Captain Devin Munroe three for the victors. Wendy Boodhoo was the lone goal scorer for Degenerates. Defending champions Old Fort ‘A’ suffered a 7-6 defeat at the hands of Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ‘A’ .
Dwayne Scott lead the scoring for the Bourda side with a hat trick of goals, Orlando Semple netted a double while Kevin Spencer and Devin Hooper scored one each.
Scorers for Old Fort were Jason Da Santos with two and Aderemi Simon one.
Hikers ‘B’ also hammered GCC ‘C’ 14-7 in the second division competition.
Leading the Scoring for Hikers was Akeem Thompson with four goals, Michael Harding, Ryan Primo and Leon Bacchus scored two each while A. Bransford and Shaquelle Asannah had one each.
Eric Hing netted GCC’s lone goal and even their six-goal handicap made little difference.
Old Fort ‘B’ got the better of Tigers 3-0, while GCC Spartans brushed aside Western Dragons 5-0.
