The Number 28/Bushlot/Adventure Concerned Citizens Development Group (CCDG) of Corentyne, Berbice has organized a series of activities to celebrate the 171st anniversary of emancipation this year, under the theme ‘Together We Believe, Together We Achieve’.
This begins with a grand road race promoting health and fitness tomorrow, involving individuals of different age groups, including senior citizens, the CCDG said in a press release.
Cycling and athletic events and a massive family fun day including two 10/10 softball competitions for both males and females, novelty events and floodlight football are also on the cards.
In addition, a free medical clinic will also be held tomorrow at the Multipurpose Community Development Centre and Sports Complex, Kildonan, Corentyne, Berbice.
Meanwhile, ‘Ganga’ (village gaff) will start on Tuesday and continue throughout the week along with discussions on youth, family and society which will highlight the dangers of drug abuse, social diseases, HIV/AIDS, among other burning issues.
A massive candlelight parade will kick off at 9 pm from Osmond Clarke Square, Limlair to the Multipurpose Community Development Centre, Kildonan, on Friday and will end in a cultural display, African drumming and chiming of bells at midnight.
And on Saturday August 1 at 8:30 am the traditional Freedom Parade will leave Manchester for the community centre led by a contingent of dancers. A prominent African national is expected to address the Emancipation rally, the release concluded.
