ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – West Indian fast bowler Kemar Roach and captain Floyd Reifer have both been fined for breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second One-day International against Bangladesh yesterday at Windsor Park.
Both players were charged with Level 1 offences, after Roach delivered two beamers during the match, and had to be removed from the attack.
Roach was docked 10 per cent of his match fee, and Reifer received a reprimand for failing to prevent the incident.
“I felt it was important to emphasise that this type of conduct is completely unacceptable and by fining the player I believe I have done so,” said ICC Match Referee Roshan Mahanama.
“Part of the role of the captain, as highlighted in both the Laws of Cricket and the ICC Code of Conduct, is to make sure that incidents such as this do not take place, but Reifer failed in that role and, again, I made it clear to him that was unacceptable.”
Roach bowled the first beamer in his sixth over to Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and was issued his first official warning by umpire Billy Doctrove. He then bowled a second beamer in his eighth over – the 43rd of the innings – leading to his removal from the attack.
Roach will also lose an additional five per cent of his match fee, and Reifer 10 per cent, after West Indies were also fined for a slow over rate.
Bangladesh won the match by three wickets for a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
