ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – West Indies selectors on Wednesday named a 13-man squad without pacer Nelon Pascal for the third and final Digicel One-Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh tomorrow in St Kitts.
Pascal misses out with a finger injury after he had been replaced by Antiguan pacer Gavin Tonge for the second One Day International (ODI) on Tuesday that Bangladesh won by three wickets for a series-winning advantage.
“Nelon Pascal has been ruled out due to a finger injury sustained during the first Digicel ODI at Windsor Park last Sunday,” the West Indies announced in a press release.
Pascal’s absence is the only change in the trimmed squad from the second ODI.
Trailing 0-2 in the three-match series, West Indies arrived in St Kitts yesterday and have scheduled their pre-match training session for 11:45 this morning.
Propelled by solid innings from their captain and man of the match Shakib Al Hasan (65) and No.3 batsman Mohammad Ashraful (64), Bangladesh defeated West Indies in Tuesday’s second ODI in spite of a solid 100 not out from Travis Dowlin.
Bangladesh won by three wickets with six balls to spare to clinch the series.
The Nevisian 19-year-old Kieran Powell, who is yet to play in the series, retains his spot in the struggling West Indies unit.
The batting of the makeshift West Indies has let them down in the series so far with openers Dale Richards and Andre Fletcher, captain Floyd Reifer among those with below-par efforts.
With scores of three and seven in the pair of ODIs at Windsor Park, Reifer is hoping to come good with the bat to rally the side and avoid a 3-0 whitewash.
“We are not getting enough partnerships at the top of the innings,” Reifer said after Tuesday’s defeat.
SQUAD: Floyd Reifer (captain), Darren Sammy (vice-captain), David Bernard, Travis Dowlin, Andre Fletcher, Rawl Lewis, Nikita Miller, Kieran Powell, Dale Richards, Kemar Roach, Devon Smith, Devon Thomas, Gavin Tonge.
