Two fishing crews were attacked and robbed of two outboard engines and fuel tanks at the Albion foreshore, Corentyne on Wednesday by three gunmen who escaped in one of the fishing boats.
Police, acting on information received at about 10 am yesterday, recovered the boat in which the gunmen escaped, two fuel tanks and a seine in a channel leading to a koker at Port Mourant, Corentyne. In a press statement yesterday police said they are investigating the armed robbery which occurred at approximately 6.30 pm that day.
Investigations, according to police, revealed that Nazim Mazeed and his crew of two were approaching the Albion Koker when they were confronted by the three men who held them at gunpoint, boarded their vessel and ordered them back out to sea. The armed men then forced Mazeed to approach another fishing vessel on which Ramnarine Permaul and a crew member were fishing at the time.
Permaul and his crew member were held at gunpoint and robbed of a 15-horse power outboard motor engine and fuel tank. Mazeed and his crew were then ordered to board Permaul’s boat. The gunmen, leaving their victims adrift, escaped with Mazeed’s boat which contained a 40-horse power outboard engine, fuel tank, seine, a quantity of fish and a cellular phone.
Investigations, police said, are ongoing.
