Corentyne Comprehensive 50th anniversary reunion held in Queens

Dear Editor,
The Corentyne Comprehensive, Rose Hall and National High Schools Alumni Association has recently held a very successful 50th Anniversary reunion.  Over 400 people attended the celebration held on July 11, 2009, at Antuns in Queens, New York. Former graduates and teachers travelled from all over the United States, Canada, England and the Caribbean to meet their respective friends and colleagues.  For myself, coming from the class of 1967, I often wondered about my former classmates and teachers, where they are, what they are doing in life and what they look like.  I met many of them, including former Principals Walter Ramdeholl and Ishwar Prashad, and my much beloved Form Master, James Permaul. The evening began with speeches, paying tribute to the late Rudra Nauth, who was the Principal of Rose Hall, Corentyne Comprehensive and National High Schools.  Rudra Nauth was a pioneer in education.  He made it possible for many of us to become educationally successful in life by providing us with the opportunity to attend high school.

In fact, Moses Nagamootoo, ex-Minister and now a practising lawyer in Guyana, who was not able to attend the reunion, is a former graduate of Corentyne Comprehensive.  So are Alvin Kalicharran, the Test cricketer, and Anand Sookram, the Caribbean table tennis champion.  Dr Leila Mangru, a former graduate of Corentyne Comprehensive, delivered the keynote address.

I would like to thank the Alumni Committee for their competence and personal sacrifice in organizing the event.  The committee provided the graduates and teachers a forum to meet after many years and reminisce about the good old days in high school.  For more information and the viewing of pictures, please visit the website at http://comprhsnhs.com.
Yours faithfully,
