KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica launched their bid for a clean sweep of the series when they outplayed Trinidad & Tobago by four wickets in their opening match of the TCL Group, West Indies One-Day Trophy Under-19 tournament yesterday.
Having won the three-day tournament last week, Jamaica took their first step towards winning the one-day phase when they easily overhauled Trinidad & Tobago’s moderate 207 off 49.3 overs, reaching 208 for six in 44.2 overs.
Opting to take first knock after winning the toss at Up Park Camp, Evin Lewis top-scored with 49 from 36 balls with seven fours while Akiel Cooper added 31 and Teshawn Castro, 29.
John Campbell (2-31) and Nicholson Gordon (2-48) were the top bowlers for the Jamaicans.
In response, the Jamaicans cruised to victory with Ramon Senior (54) and Campbell (52) scoring half-centuries. Senior faced 83 balls and struck six fours and two sixes while Campbell hit six fours and one six off 69 balls.
Yannic Cariah led T&T with two for 34 from eight overs.
T&T were off to a poor start, losing makeshift opener Aaron Alfred without scoring, trapped in front to Gordon while skipper Yannick Ottley was run out for three with only 24 runs on the board.
Wickets fell steadily as the Jamaican bowlers kept T&T quiet for the remainder of the innings.
