Dear Editor,
Quite clearly, the death of murder accused David Leander, aka ‘Biscuit’ was suspiciously sudden, in particular because it occurred while he was incarcerated in the Georgetown prisons, but was being treated as inmate in the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he expired.
It was Friday, July 24, around 9.30 am and on the very mid-morning at a PNCR press conference, that Opposition Leader Robert Corbin, responding to a question, reportedly said: “One has to be concerned when a prisoner, who, while in the custody of the state and who is presumed innocent until proven guilty, is poisoned.” This is definitely a preposterous, damning position being adopted by someone who is expected to be responsible when issuing statements for public consumption. In fact, it is most incautious, having regard to the close proximity between the time of death and when he uttered the statement. The statement preempted the post mortem, the full results of which are not yet available.
If the Opposition Leader is in possession of evidence to conclude that poisoning was the cause of death, he is obliged to communicate with the police.
Yours faithfully,
David DeGroot
