KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Their bowlers set it up, and then their batsmen carried Jamaica their second straight victory in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 One-day Trophy, when they dispatched Leeward Islands by six wickets yesterday.
Jamaica, chasing Leewards’ 119 all out off 37 overs, reached their target in the second round match at Jamalco with 139 balls to spare.
Jamaica captain Paul Palmer led the way with 29, Ramon Senior scored 23, and Jermaine Blackwood was not out on 21, as the hosts finished on 120 for four from 26.5 overs.
Kevin Osbourne was the pick of the Leewards bowlers with two wickets for 15 runs from seven overs, and Nelson Bolan captured two for 33 from six overs.
Leewards had started shakily and soon found themselves in strife at 77 for six, and there was no one in the lower order to script a comeback story.
Leewards captain Kejel Tyson top-scored with 41 and Hayden Walsh Jr added 22.
The visitors were undermined by Patrick Harty, whose four wickets for 21 runs from 10 overs made him the most successful Jamaica bowler.
Nicholson Gordon supported with two for 34 from eight overs.
