-two employees resign
Two employees of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) resigned on Friday after the organization uncovered a suspected fraud in which a substantial amount of Government revenues are unaccounted for.
According to a source, the fraud was uncovered when a staffer attached to the Aeronautical Services Department (AIS) of the GCAA was taking over a shift from another colleague. The source said that the AIS department, among its duties, collects revenues in United States currency from private aircraft landing at CJIA and same is handed over to the GCAA accounts department after a period of time. A supervisor at the Timehri Tower checked the receipt books at the facility recently and noticed thousands of dollars in revenues unaccounted for as well as a few pages from the book missing, the source related.
Stabroek News understands that the GCAA is conducting intense investigations into the matter.
