Malika Boyd, a 32-year-old butcher, is the new GT&T Cellink Jingle and Song Competition winner.
According to a press statement, after being announced the winner Boyd collapsed on the stage, but only for a few seconds as she was back up, jumping and smiling in front an audience awaiting her first official performance as the winner.
Boyd told reporters Sunday night that she is “ecstatic and thrilled” and noted that from day one all she wanted to do was to drive off with the first prize, a car, but realized in the end that the competition had much more to offer her.
The woman, the release said, was “a crowd
favourite” from the beginning of the quarterfinal round of the Jingle and Song Competition. Boyd, who hails from Linden, said that finally her dreams of using her God given talent are bearing fruit.
Meanwhile, Calvin Burnett came in second and Michael Thompson third. Both Burnett and Thompson thanked all of their supporters for ensuring that they have a lifetime of experiences to carry with them.
Over 300 potential artistes initial auditioned for the competition. The theme for this year’s Jingle Competition was “Caribbean Rhythm, Guyanese Vibes.”
