The third running of the Annual Guyana Cup is all set to take place on August 16 at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice with Nazarudeen Mohammed of the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables pumping $6.5M in cash and prizes into the event.
Apart from the whopping amount of money available, there are also six motor-scooters available for outstanding performers. Eight races are carded for the day, including a number of feature events which will be highlighted by the clash of the champions in the B & Lower category.
The other top races are the Three-Year-Old Open, Guyana and West Indian bred E & Lower horses and the Two-Year-Old Open, Guyana and West Indies bred horses.
The main feature B & Lower 1400 showdown has a total stakes of
$1,875,000 with the winner pocketing a massive one million dollars, while $500,000 will go to the second place finisher.
The third and fourth places will collect $250,000 and $125,000 respectively.
Three-year-old horses will also cover the 1400M distance for a winning purse of $600,000.
Horses contesting the rarely run E and lower 1400 event will compete for a first prize of $500,000 and the 2-year-old open gallop will be contested over 1,100M with the winner’s money set at $400,000.
Meanwhile $200,000 will go to the winner of the ‘G’ and Lower and the ‘I’ and Lower winning stake will be $160,000 over 1,100M.
The J and K division horses will have $140,000 as the winner’s prize while the L class horses will sprint over a distance of 1400M for a top prize of $100,000.
Entries close on Sunday August 9.
The six motor scooters up for the taking will be presented to the Champion Jockey, Champion Trainer, Champion Owner, and the winners in the ‘B’, Three Years and Two-years-old events.
