A squad of 18 players was selected to represent Guyana in the Tri-Nation Goodwill football series scheduled for Suriname from August 5 – 12.
The other competing teams are French Guiana and the host team, Suriname.
Head Coach Sampson Gilbert and his assistant Devon Bisson along with manager and physiotherapist Carlos Bernard and Lindley Langhorne respectively are in charge of the squad.
Speaking with Stabroek Sport Gilbert said that he was pleased with the preparation of the squad.
“Given the time we had for preparation, I worked on what I thought needed to be sharpened up which was tactical awareness.”
The squad which was encamped at the Critchlow Labour College dormitory since July 20 was released yesterday.
Gilbert added that he was relatively confident that the team will perform well since he has covered a few important aspects of their game and taught them how to work as a unified group.
He added that he was glad for the opportunity to work with Bisson and Langhorne since it was a pleasure to work with them.
“Bisson has a relatively good understanding of the game and brings a lot of ideas into the game and he is also a very interactive person.
“The biggest aspect will be the physiological aspect which can play a major role in affecting how we play. Since the squad has a lot of first time national players and they lack experience and may not be able to deal with certain situations,” he opined.
Gilbert declared that the discipline was good and that there was no extreme issue that could not be handled.
The full squad comprises of three goal keepers Devon Charles, Romario James and Jamaul Booker, defenders – Jermaine Bamfield, Dick Vancooten, Clive Welcome, Shawn Caesar and Romario Hughes.
Midfield – Rolex Martin, Pernel Shultz, Keyon Ismond, Keson Dey, Mohammed Ai, Deshane Garnett and Sherwin Lewis while the forwards are Domini Garnett, Aloysius Edwards and Nikel Fraser.
