The insistence of Com-missioner of Police, Mr Henry Greene, that the police have in their possession spy equipment may have merit. The first time Guyanese knew about this equipment was when a Guyana Defence Force patrol caught three men on the night of December 4, 2002 in the area of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara. They included a member of the Black Clothes Squad and Shaheed Roger Khan.
Robert Simels’ disclosure in the US court on August 4, 2009, speaks of spy equipment that was purchased in 2003. This revelation indicates that there exist two sets of spy equipment, so far – one that was seized when the GDF intercepted the men in 2002, and the other bought in 2003.
The government is hoping to hoodwink people by bringing out the spy equipment it seized in 2002, in the hope that it can clear its name of culpability and association with Roger Khan. Whether it’s one, two, or more sets of equipment, the fact remains that this type of equipment is only sold to governments and it should have never been in the possession of a drug lord. This in itself suggests that the government is involved with Khan. We know that Khan was using this equipment in his drug running and for committing murders.
I urge Guyanese to continue to be vigilant by staying true to the facts and events unfolding in the US court, and to hold the government accountable.
