GSL completes another successful round
The Guyana Softball League (GSL) completed yet another successful round of softball cricket in the Mike’s Pharmacy 15-Over Countrywide Competition with matches in the Under-15, Over 40 and Open Male Categories.
West Watooka SC and ‘A’ team (WWSC) gained comfortable victories in the Linden Zone of the Under-15 category as they defeated Blueberry Hill and Kara Kara by 106 runs and nine wickets respectively.
WWSC batted first against Blueberry Hill (BBH) and posted a total 139-2 in 10 overs with Lloyd Williams (70) leading the way as Jamal Ammington took 1-19 for the opposition. BBH were bundled out for 33 inside ten overs as Seon Cipio ripped through the batting lineup with 5-12.
The WWSC ‘A’ Team batted first and scored 114-9 in 10 overs to Joseph Fortune top scored with 34 as Devon Grant bagged 3-20 for Kara Kara. In reply, Kara Kara Kings made 105 all out in ten overs with Said Hussein putting up a fighting 38 while Shane Davidson was the best bowler for the winners with 2-18.
In other results Nottinghamshire defeated Victory Valley Kings and Section ‘C’ by 11 runs and five wickets respectively, Blazing Fire XI defeated Section “C” All Stars by 54 runs, Genesis ‘B’ and ‘C’ claimed a walkover from Sunrise CC and Uprising SC.
In the Demerara Zone of the Over-40 Category, Trophy Stall Seniors defeated Savage Seniors by three wickets and Floodlight XI defeated Industry Super Kings by three wickets while Shattaville Masters and Rangers Masters gained walkover victories from Uitvlugt Masters. Pacesetters XI set the pace in the Linden Zone Open Category with a dominating 153-run victory over West Watooka SC.
A total of 232-9 was amassed by Pacesetters, Mark Craig and Ryan Motley both contributed 54 each to help their team to the mammoth total while Gary Grant picked up 2-5 for West Westooka who in reply crumbled to 79 all out in 11 overs with Harlington Wayne (4-23) leading the way with the ball.
The Zone also had Uprising SC beating Nottinghamshire by three runs, Victory 14 XI getting past Uprising SC by 18 runs, South Star XI trashing West Watooka SC by five wickets and Strike Star XI gaining a walkover from Endeavour XI.
On the East Coast Annandale West XI demolished Harry XI by a massive 116 runs. Annandale XI took first strike and scored 220-2 in 15 overs as Amrit Taleram registered an unbeaten century (115) while the opposition were restricted to 104-9 in reply.
East Coast Zone – Rockets XI made light work of Annandale West XI by five wickets, Daredevils XI defeated Legacy XI by 75 runs and Annandale West XI gained a walkover from Legacy XI.
East Bank Zone – North Boys XI defeated Ghost Riders XI by a five wickets, Diamond Superstars XI defeated North Boys XI (in their 2nd match) by four wickets, Takers XI defeated Bent Street XI by six wickets, Bent Street XI got a walkover from Young Challengers XI, Ghost Riders XI got a walkover from Young Challengers XI and Players XI got a walkover from Bhaiya XI.
West Coast Zone – Shattaville XI defeated Raiders XI by 38 runs, Shattaville XI defeated Westside Underdogs XI by eight runs then the Underdogs XI gained a walkover from Hyde Park XI.
