French Guiana Member of Parliament (MP) Chantal Berthelot along with Ambassador of France to Suriname and Guyana Richard Barbeyron and Assistant Lawrence Murielle met Prime Minister Samuel Hinds who was performing the duties of the President on Tuesday.
According to a GINA press release, the historical and current commonalities between the countries, the newly constructed Takutu River Bridge and Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) were among the things discussed.
Berthelot highlighted how effective trade and travel would be if bridges were built to link Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana as she made note of the similarity of the infrastructure between her country and Brazil.
Meanwhile, Berthelot who is a specialist in the environment expressed her interest in learning more about the country’s LCDS which she became aware of a few months ago. She said believed the topic warranted collaboration between her country and Guyana, while noting the importance and the value of preserving the forest.
The meeting, according to GINA, was the first in a series of visits focused on the environment. The French Guiana MP also paid courtesy calls on other governmental officials.
