Dear Editor,
Following the recent charade of unfounded criticisms and misinformation about the management of the agriculture sector by a known opposition section of the media, the latest NACTA poll has proven otherwise. This credible poll has touted the Minister of Agriculture as “responsive and helpful,” according to farmers. This says a lot, because farmers cannot be easily pleased. However, once farmers know someone is making a dedicated effort for their cause they will recognize his/her efforts.
It is not surprising that the young minister has risen in this popularity poll, as his hard work is evident, despite the attempts to spread misinformation about the management of the agriculture sector. There have been countless new developments within the sector under his stewardship, and farmers are at a stage where they are satisfied with the efforts of government, in particular, the Minister for ensuring an advantageous environment for agriculture to bloom once more.
The development of agriculture cannot be seen passing on the road; we have to venture out into farming communities and speak to real farmers, not those who live by the roadside with a little kitchen garden. When we visit the markets we must consider ourselves lucky with the range of affordable fresh produce available, something most countries do not enjoy.
The NACTA poll is just the beginning of recognizing many efforts and strides in the agriculture sector and the naysayers will be sidelined for their flawed criticisms.
Yours faithfully,
Ganesh Singh
