I have noticed the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) lamenting its losses due to cell and overseas calls being manipulated and abused. In recent months it lost over US$2M. As a businessman, anyone with thinking ability would know that this represents a serious cash flow dilemma. As a loyal customer of GT&T, I feel the pain of the loss, so imagine how it affects the shareholders and management. This is fraud and should be handled as such.
I have noticed that in recent months when I get overseas calls from relatives who have contracts with apparently large companies in the USA offering special deals – three or four in one package – the reception is always poor at the Guyana end, with words being cut short, mangled and distorted. Sometimes they call three times to get connected. When I call them the calls are fantastic, lucid and clear. Even they say so. Even though the company may be a big provider in the USA, the number that shows in Guyana is usually a local cell number, eg, 660 or 600.
Dishonesty is dishonesty, fair is fair. I hope something is done in this matter, and I thank GT&T for always trying to improve its service and maintain good customer relations.
