The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) team to this year’s Caribbean Senior Championships in the Cayman Islands from August 17-22, yesterday received a much needed boost from Ansa McAl under their Smalta brand when a sponsorship cheque valued at $906,902 was presented to them.
Making the presentation was the company’s Managing Director Beverly Harper who said that they were happy to assist the team after their admirable performance at the Junior Championships in Barbados where they walked away as the Boys and Girls champions as well as the overall title holder for the fifth year in succession.
She said further that the GSA has been in and out of competitions regionally for over 20 years with distinction and her company was honoured to recognize the work done by the association with their support.
“We at Ansa McAl are delighted to be able to assist with airfare, entrance fees and uniforms and this experience we hope will augur well for the team and the country,” Harper said.
Collecting on behalf of the GSA were the Jeffery twins Keisha and Kayla along with Oliver Kear-Downes who all expressed their association’s gratitude for the gesture by Ansa McAl.
Keisha Jeffery who is also the Caribbean’s under-17 champion said that they are eagerly looking forward to the championships in the Cayman Islands and they are all overjoyed that Ansa McAl could come onboard to make it a reality.
Guyana will be sending a 14-member team to the Cayman Islands this year with the aim of continuing their good showing.
