The search continued yesterday for Ricky Jainarine, the ten-year-old boy missing following a boat accident on the Essequibo River on Monday night while a post-mortem examination done on his father, Jainarine Dinanauth, revealed that he died by drowning.
Given the post-mortem report, police sources said it was likely that it was a boat accident and not a robbery as relatives had posited but they noted that investigations are continuing. Searches throughout yesterday revealed no trace of Ricky and there was also no new information on the vessel that hit the boat that the trio was in.
Henry Gibson, 45, of Hog Island, Essequibo River was the third person in the boat. A post-mortem examination on his body will be done tomorrow. The bodies of Dinanauth, 45, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo and Gibson were discovered in their shattered wooden boat, which was drifting just off the eastern side of Hog Island at about 9:30 am on Tuesday. Ricky had been in the boat with them.
Police had said that their investigations had revealed that the trio left the Parika Stelling at about 6:30 pm on Monday for Hog Island in a wooden boat. After he had not made contact with her, Dinanauth’s reputed wife began making enquiries and subsequently formed a search party with the assistance of public-spirited persons, the police stated. They eventually found the bodies of Dinanauth and Gibson, which bore injuries, in the badly damaged boat. The vessel was in the Essequibo River in the vicinity of Hog Island.
A post-mortem examination was performed on the body of Dinanauth yesterday and it revealed that he died by drowning, relatives said. They pointed out that the man had
been found with his face in the water. Noting that his revolver was found on him, one relative said that while they could not be fully confident of the fact, the post-mortem report has led them to believe that more than likely it was an accident and not a robbery. Dinanauth will be cremated tomorrow.
Meantime, searches throughout yesterday revealed no sign of Ricky. His mother Salimoon Rahaman told Stabroek News last evening that the search will continue today.
