Paulette Jhingoree was wrestling with a big problem yesterday.
Just one day after the organisers announced that the Guyana Wrestle Mania event which was schedule for the National Park this Saturday had been postponed, Jhingoree, of New Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was wondering how to get her money back.
Dennis Adonis, whose company Sound Proof Music had organized the event in a press release informing the media of the postponement of the event had indicated that persons who had already purchased tickets for the event would be given a full refund from the outlet where they had purchased the tickets.
But Jhingoree yesterday told Stabroek Sport that there was no proof to that particular bit of news which was certainly not music to her ears.
Additionally, Phone Depot on Middle Street yesterday said that they were no longer associated with the event.
Phone depot’s stance left Jhingoree scraping for a refund of the sum of $12,000 spent on tickets for the event.
She said that she purchased four tickets at $3000 each from the Middle Street store on August 4 and after an article appeared in this newspaper yesterday about the postponement of the event, she went for a ticket refund as stated by Adonis.
But sadly for the Diamond resident, she was told that the organisers for the event had collected all the revenue from the ticket sales after Phone Depot had pulled out and as such she would have to go to the police station or find the promoters for her $12,000 back.
“We are hard working people and we did this for our children who really love wrestling and some of the people who were coming…they were excited about it and we wanted to give them a good time…my husband works hard for his money and we just wanted to do this for the children and to know we can’t get our money back right now hurts bad,” Jhingoree said
She added that she was also told by a sales person at the Phone Depot store that they were planning to bring some wrestlers on August 23 and if she wanted, she can keep the tickets and gain entrance For that event.
Jhingoree yesterday appeared sad and disappointed and she almost broke down into tears.
She said she went to the Brickdam Police Station and was told that regardless of who pulled out, Phone Depot was responsible for giving her a refund since it was at that outlet that she purchased the tickets.
This newspaper checked at Phone Depot yesterday and was told by sales representative Damien Dorwish that they had pulled out after media reports placed the event in a shroud of mystery.
“We handed over all ticket sales money to the organisers after we pulled out and we are not responsible for any refund,” Dorwish said.
As it relates to the word about their entity bringing Wrestlers on August 23 for an event, he said that his boss was looking after that and he was awaiting a word from some of the contacted Wrestlers handlers before making it public.
Adonis told this newspaper on Tuesday that Phone Depot along with Giftland Office Max and Channel 6 Television Station were the ticketing outlets and were responsible for ticket refunds.
A Check with Channel Six Television yesterday revealed that the station was still in receipt of the revenue from ticket sales but they were making refund only on tickets sold from that location.
Numerous efforts were made to contact Adonis or any representative from the promoting body yesterday all to no avail.
The Guyana Wrestle Mania event, Adonis said has been postponed to October 31.
