The Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development (LCICD) at its recent AGM elected Basil Jaipaul as president and Marvin Burns as senior vice- president, the Chamber said in a news release yesterday.
The new LCIDC Executive Committee members are Jaipaul, president; Marvin Burns, senior vice-president; Coretta Brathwaite, junior vice-president; Sheena Bristol, secretary; Shawn Naughton, treasurer; and Courtney Handy, assistant secretary/treasurer.
And at the first executive committee meeting on Wednesday a new Chamber policy was formulated with the main focus being to make LCICD “more positively visible locally and nationally,” the release noted. The objective of the policy is to establish services and activities to address the needs of members and the business climate of Linden, the release added.
Meanwhile, the Chamber will also aim to re-establish and strengthen its ties with other Chambers of Commerce, especially in Georgetown and Lethem.
In his acceptance speech, while thanking the outgoing president Leonard Forde for his effort and dedication during his term of office, Jaipaul said that he will follow through with initiatives taken by Forde and he will continue to promote the expansion and development of the LCICD.
In his reply, Forde wished the new executive committee success and assured that he would continue to be a vibrant member of the committee and work to support the development of the Chamber.
