An Eccles/Ramsburg Neighbourhood Democratic Council tractor trailer driver who alleged caused the death of a co-worker and failed to report the incident and render assistance, was yesterday slapped with three charges and later released on $360,000 bail.
Toolsie Ram Sooknandan of Lot 378 Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara appeared in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, for which he was granted $340,000 bail; failing to render assistance to an injured person, $10,000 bail and failing to report an accident to a police constable or police station within 24 hours, $10, 000 bail.
It is alleged that on Monday Sooknandan caused the death of Freddie Ramlogan and shortly after committed the other two offences.
According to the reports reaching Stabroek News, Sooknandan, Ramlogan and another co worker were on the tractor when Ramlogan fell off while it was in motion. The injured man was picked up and placed on the tractor to be taken to the hospital for medical attention. However, sometime later, his lifeless body was found on the roadway in an area close to the Demerara Habour Bridge.
Police subsequently began their investigations and Sooknandan was held for questioning.
He will return to court on September 4.
