The Education Ministry will be examining a proposed five-year educational plan, prepared by the Board of Governors of the St Stanislaus College which the institution says can be used as a model for private-public sector partnerships to transform secondary education in Guyana.
Education Minister Shaik Baksh, while addressing the media yesterday at the Ministry of Education’s boardroom at Lot 21, Brick-dam, said that an article in Thursday’s issue of this newspaper on the proposal engaged his attention noting that officials of the ministry will be examining the proposal and will make their position public at a later date.
The working document entitled ’Private/Public Partnership towards Transforming Education in Secondary School’, proposes to the Government increased private involvement in the management and financing of education in Guyana and will be the focus of a workshop to be hosted on Tuesday to develop the plan. It is among the aims of the institution’s first ever international reunion which will run from tomorrow to August 22.
The proposal will not lead to an increase in government spending where running of the institution is concerned but will make available already allocated resources to be channelled as the school board sees fit, all the time ensuring that the school curriculum is fully respected.
