Scottsburg United and Port Mourant through to semis
Scottsburg United and Port Mourant have moved onto the semi-final round of the 2009 Spready’s Bakery Under-19 50-overs cricket competition in Berbice after registering easy victories against their opponents in the quarter-final matches.
At No. 70, Scottsburg United defeated De Edward by seven wickets while at Rose Hall, Canje, Port Mourant crushed Tucber Park by 91 runs.
In the Scottsburg/De Edward battle, the sides were reduced to 40 overs because of the late arrival of the De Edward team. De Edward won the toss and elected to bat first and crumbled to 100 all out in 28.4 overs.
They were once 30 – 1 but medium pacer Marvin Harvey spearheaded the bowling attack to finish with 4 – 41 and he was supported by Akram Razack and Mark Lionel who grabbed 2-19 and 2-30 respectively as Sadart Harripaul top scored with a resistant 30 for De Edward.
When Scottsburg United took to the crease, their opening batsmen Ryan Ramdass, who made 47 (4×6, 4×4), and Mark Lionel, unbeaten on 19, gave their team a flying start before the fall off Ramdass (73-1). They eventually got up to 101 – 3 in 12.4 overs while Derek Lalsa Jnr. bagged 2 – 10 for De Edward.
At Rose Hall, Port Mourant won the toss and batted first posting a total of 163 in 39.3 overs with Mark Bheemsingh leading the way with 38 and was helped by Sasenarine Ernest (25) and Vedesh Lall (20).
Left arm spinner Troy Mickle took 4 – 45 and off spinner Joemal La Fleur grabbed 2 – 18 for Tucber Park.
Tucber Part could only respond with 72 as they were bowled out inside 21 overs with La Fleur offering some resistance with 17 as no other batsman made it to double figures.
Port Mourant’s Chandrashekar Arjune claimed 4 – 13 with his off spin while Bisham Persaudie (2 – 15) and George Hughes (2 – 28) gave firm support.
