One of Guyana’s longest surviving record studios is set to observe its tenth anniversary come next year, but the company is not waiting that long to mark the occasion kicking off the celebrations last evening.
The Kross Kolor Records, one of the most popular studios in Guyana, in a release announced that their tenth anniversary will be celebrated in the year 2010.
“The company which started from very humble beginnings has risen to the very top of the hill when it comes to the sustained development of recorded music with an emphasis on the Guyana music market,” the company boasted in the release.
Many activities planned for their tenth year will be held under the theme ‘The Kolor Revolution’ leading up to the finale in October of 2010.
According to the release the hallmarks of the company over the years have been forward planning and efficient execution of those plans.
So it was forward planning that saw their celebrations being kicked off with a launch of thirty new releases last evening on a special version of Hot Tracks on 98.1 Hot FM hosted by Rocky Carew and sponsored by Digicel.
Artistes featured on the programme with new releases are were: Vanilla, B52, Adrian Dutchin, x2, Gialliani, HeadHunters, Jumo, Bonesman, Tennicia, Ossie O, Corner Stone, Jebelmusa, Passion, Big Red, Colgrain White, Magus and Code Redd. The label will also be releasing new songs by Nancy ‘Zara’ Osbourne, Jermaine ‘The Pheonix’ McBean and ten-year-old Jovinski.
The programme, the release said, was expected to offer a very different side of the company and the singles released will represent selections from the upcoming albums of all the artistes on the KKR label. All are to be released before the company’s tenth anniversary show. Each artiste is expected to have a video for three of his/her recordings. Kross Kolor over the past year have revved up their presence overseas with TV, sound track and licensing deals.
Plans are also afoot for their own television programme to be launched soon, a new website, aggressive internet marketing and attendance at major trade shows.
According to Burchmore Simon, quoted in the release, the company will be looking forward to working with a diverse set of arrangers in and out of Guyana as they strive to continue to produce quality material for their artistes.
