Residents of Sand Hills, Berbice River have voiced concerns that the Region Ten administration is discriminating against them and their children by denying them access to health care and education.
Residents told Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali, during a recent visit to the area, that they are being victimised because of a perception that they support the ruling PPP/C administration. According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release residents allege that the region is guilty of unequal distribution of resources and that it has prevented them from accessing health care when medical personal are in the area as the personnel simply leave without addressing the community’s needs.
“They are neglecting us…we have children who want to attend the Kuru Kuru College but it appears as though the people in the administration (Region Ten) have ‘ducked’ the children’s papers …something needs to be done,” resident Medan Lindie said.
