The Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club will continue its 5th Race Walk Month events this weekend commencing with the West Bank Demerara race walk and then the Bartica 2009 race walk.
On Saturday the West Bank Demerara race walk will start at the road head at Canal No.2, Stanleytown and finish at the road end of Canal No. 2.
This event will be followed by the Bartica 2009 race walk which will commence at 06:30hrs at the Monument and proceed around the town ending at the Regatta Pavilion.
CSTS’s Coordinator Olga Harry said that the month’s activities have been a success despite insufficient sponsorship but praised Public Service Minister Jennifer Westford for her outstanding contribution to the activities.
Meanwhile Rudolph Mitchell claimed his 97th race walk title last Sunday in his hometown, Linden.
The race which was sponsored by CSTS in association with the New GPC and contractor Narindra Latchman started at the Linden Bridge at the Wismar end and proceeded along the Winifred Gaskin Highway ending at the Bayroc Recreational Centre in Wisroc. In second position was Kevin Mitchell with Jeremy Cornelius in the third spot. Donna Ramkissoon took the top position in the female category ahead of Carmella Mitchell and Carlotta Mitchell who placed second and third respectively.
Glayson Ralph and Ivelaw Charles tied for first position among the juniors with Angela Charles second. Debidyal Harold took the top position among the veterans.
