Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh has opined that the gunshot wound that a Greek national sustained at his home on Tuesday, was self- inflicted, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said.
A post-mortem examination on Vlachakis Zacharias at the Georgetown Hospital Mortuary yesterday revealed that he died from shock and haemorrhage due to a gunshot injury.
Persaud told this newspaper when contacted that investigators swabbed the hands of the dead man and his wife following the incident for evidence of gun powder residue.
Contrary to the reports initially reaching Stabroek News, the crime chief said that at the time of the incident, Zacharias, his wife and their son were at home.
Residents had recounted that around 5:40 am, the couple had an argument and there was noise, similar to that of someone hitting a glass. Residents had originally said that the woman had left and gone to her brother’s home located behind her and after a brief conversation with him, she left the premises with her nine-year-old son.
It was then said that about 20 minutes later the woman returned with a van load of policemen and a cousin who worked in their Fast Food outlet located next to her home broke the tragic news to her.
Relatives of the couple and their close friends expressed shock at the incident and were clueless as to what may have sparked it.
