The Under-10 boys team to the fourth Caribbean cadet table tennis tournament played unbeaten to capture the gold medal at the tournament which ended yesterday in Barbados.
The team of Elisihaba Johnson, Kyle Edghill and Rajiv Muneshwar played unbeaten in the team competition defeating teams from Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo by 3-2 margins on the way to the gold medal.
Trinidad and Tobago ended as runners up with the Dominican Republic, a late entrant to the tournament, third.
Johnson and Edghill also won bronze medals in the boys U-10 singles and doubles events.
The boys’ U-10 singles was won by Puerto Rico’s Sebastien Echevarria who defeated Andres Betances of the Dominican Republic in the final.
Guyana gained two more bronze medals in the girls U-13 doubles through Chelsea Edghill and Akiela Wiltshire and in the girls U-10 singles through Priscilla Greaves.
Puerto Rico swept the U-13 boys and girls singles titles with Manuel Gomez getting the better of Trinidad’s Aaron Wilson in the boys final while Danielys Rios defeated teammate Ashley Diaz in the girls final.
Isaac Vila and Meshach Pillai were joint third in the boys U-13 division as were Puerto Rico’s Melanie and Gabriella Diaz in the girls’ U-13 division.
The Guyana team is expected back today.
