The family of a Bagotstown East Bank Demerara man who was found lying dead by the roadside are convinced that he was the victim of some sort of foul play.
The body of 47-year-old Gokaran Singh was discovered on the Eccles Access Road early yesterday morning. According to the man’s brother, Deodat Singh, the body bore no obvious marks of violence but blood oozed from the man’s left ear.
When Stabroek News visited the family’s home at 2 Water Street Bagotstown yesterday, relatives were puzzled as to how the father of two met his death. Deodat Singh who shared a home with his brother said he was awakened at about 7am yesterday with news that a body had been found at the side of the Access Road. He said someone who saw the body before he did alerted him to the possibility that it may have been that of his brother, which he subsequently confirmed.
“I find it amazing that they found him there. My brother don’t go nowhere over that side. The first thing I looked for was his slipper, but I ain’t see it, and that I find strange because my brother always have on his slipper,” the man said.
He said his brother, who is a retired seaman, drank occasionally but would not venture anywhere far, and was also well known in the neighbourhood.
“I calling it foul play pending further investigations. He’s not a cartel or nobody like that to say that he body gon be dumped or anything like that. Something happen, so we waiting to see what will come out,” he said.
Singh was found with a sealed bottle of high wine in his pocket and small amounts of money in two pockets.
