Fruta Conquerors and Sunburst Camptown drained three more points out of their latest opponents as the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League continued on Friday with two matches at the Tucville Playfield.
Both Camptown and Conquerors recorded come-from-behind victories as Pele and Flamingo were beaten 2 – 1 and 3 – 1 respectively.
The action continues tonight with the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) going head to head with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) while Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United face off with BK International Western Tigers at 6pm and 8pm respectively.
Sunburst Camptown and Pele contested one of the best second round matches thus far with both teams playing wonderful football both offensively and defensively. Neither of the two teams scored in the first half even though Pele had a few great opportunities to go ahead and could not find the final touch to get the ball between the uprights.
Pele, however, were able to score in the 71st minute from a Travis Grant strike that upset the entire Camptown contingent but Pele who looked as if they were still celebrating at the resumption of the match were stunned the very next minute when the opposition equalized. Kester Alleyne scored for Camptown in the 72nd minute then three minute later Kwane La Fleur snuck one past the custodian as a Pele defender tried to effectively clear the ball from in the 18 yard box but was unsuccessful with his attempt and the ball found La Fleur who thumped it just past the right post.
Flamingo shocked Conquerors when they drew first blood in the 29th minute through Quessey Alleyne who capitalized on a goal keeper blunder.
Impatience began to grow in the Fruta Conquerors camp and the supporters were no different as they expectantly waited for their team to equalize in the second half.
Julyon Harry found the equalizer for Conquerors in the 70th minute when the Flamingo team began to show signs of weariness and fatigue from the constant attacking stint by the opposition. Devon Forde rocked the net in the 87th minute to give Conquerors the lead then Gavin Decosta found him self in the right place in the third minute of injuries and stoppages time to blast one into the back of the net for Fruta.
