The Santos and Fruta Conquerors Football Clubs defeated their opponents in the semi-finals yesterday to set up the final showdown in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Football Competition.
Santos defeated Renaissance 1 – 0 in the first semi, then Conquerors got past Beacon United by the same margin in the other semi at the Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park. The two victorious teams will collide on Thursday at the same venue to see who will claim top honours, while Renaissance will meet Beacon in the third place showdown in a 5pm kick-off.
Both matches contested yesterday had teams playing unyielding football with each team having good runs which opened scoring opportunities.
In the Santos/Renaissance battle, Pernel Roberts scored in the middle of the first half (10th) to give his team the lead they needed to take them into the final.
Fruta’s most seasoned campaigner and captain, Ryan Hackett, scored his team’s only goal through a penalty kick in the 17th minute, after the opposition was blown for handling inside the goal -keeper’s box.
