The Lions Club of West Berbice distributed clothing hampers to residents of Profitt/Belladrum last week.
President of the club Nandra Phagoo told Stabroek News that it was a pleasure for the club to hand out the hampers, especially since it was done in honour of the club’s 35th anniversary. One week of activities were held in its observance.
He said most of the clothing that the residents received was acquired from “overseas” and he was glad that the residents showed appreciation for them. He added that the club, which had been dormant for a while, was also planning to donate two electrical irons to the Fort Wellington Hospital. According to him, the club has been living up to its mandate to help the needy and continues to hold eye clinics around West Berbice.
Among the other activities that were held, Phagoo mentioned, was a church service and a lunch for all the other Lions Clubs in Berbice. He also said that there are plans to erect signs to welcome travellers to West Berbice. These would be placed near the Abary Bridge and the D’Edward end of the Berbice River Bridge.
