-to play Ravens on Friday
As expected, Eagles were no match for Courts Pacesetters as the defending champions made light work of them 69-55 to advance to the semi-finals of this year’s Brusche’s Basketball Classic where they will play Dyna’s Ravens.
It was regarded as a straight passage into the semis for Pacesetters since Eagles is seen as a weak side which is also not an active club in Georgetown. As a matter of fact, they were only brought into the tournament because one of the organisers, Mike Brusche was a former player when they were one of the top clubs back in the heyday of the sport.
Pacesetters always seemed confident and played with a certain air about them as if they were already seeing the semi-finals in the distance.
The champs were barely made to sweat and used the game as a warm-up for the real challenge which lies ahead. At half time, Pacesetters led by ten points (34-24) as Royston Siland and Naylon Loncke pounded away at the flimsy defence of the Eagles.
Siland lit up the half with some high flying moves and capped it with a few alley-oops while Loncke was his normal self hitting them from behind the arc. No one on the Eagles side ever threatened to put up a big score nor did the team show any signs of coming back in the game even when Pacesetters were caught experimenting with their third string players.
Loncke finished the game with a game high 19 points while Siland scored 14 and Huge Arthur, ten.
For the losers, veteran centre Dane Kendal had a team high 13 points and Adrian Hooper contributed ten points. The win for the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) champions would see them squaring off against the team who they defeated to take the title.
It’s always going to be an epic battle whenever these two teams meet because of the uncertainly as to who will win looms over the match.
Their clash will take place this Friday in Linden at the Mackenzie Hard Court and on the same night, the Glands Trucking Service (GTS) Bulls are down to face the Wismar Pistons.
A date for the finals is still not known since the organisers are toying with the idea of rescheduling the event after the semi-finals because of the clash with the JamZone event.
