-Rudolph Mitchell on brink of century of race walk wins
Rudolph Mitchell captured his 99th race walk title at the 16th annual William France race walk event held over weekend.
The race, which began at two Brother’s Service Station at Eccles and ended at Mocha road head, saw some 50 persons participating including Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds.
In another race held on Saturday Mitchell defeated his opponents yet again to win what was his 98th title in the West Bank Demerara Race Walk finishing in a time of one hour.
He was followed by second finisher Jeremy Cornelius and Brian Roberts in third position.
Dindyal Harold was fourth.
Shellon Bobb was the top finisher among the females while young Ivelaw Charles came in ahead of his sister Angela in the junior category.
Trophies were donated by Guyana Olympic Association president K. Juman Yassin, managing director of Modern Optical Services Jose Da Silva and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Three.
The Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) will draw the curtain on its month of race walking activities when it stages a 10 lap, `Walk for Life Race’ event around the Soesdyke Methodist Church on Saturday.
The final race, the `Last Lap Race Walk’ event, will be held on Sunday from 6:30am at Canje in Corentyne and proceeds along the roadway to GUYSUCO’s Rose Hall Estate for the finish.
