The Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco) said that at the end of the fifth week of grinding sugar production had exceeded 10,000 tonnes.
In a press release Guysuco said workers at its Rose Hall location have qualified for the equivalent of two days’ pay as weekly production incentive while those at the Albion and Blairmont estates received a day’s pay under the Scheme. It said production was measured at 10,110 tonnes.
Additionally, Guysuco said production for the second crop now exceeds 36,000 tonnes and workers are encouraged to maximise production by making the most of opportunity days available.
Meanwhile, the corporation said strike action by workers at the Enmore and Wales estates hindered production targets. Management urges workers “to seek consultation rather than confrontation, adhere to the Grievance procedure and desist from unnecessary work stoppages.”
Grinding for the second crop started at July month end and is expected to last for 20 weeks. The target is about 160,000 tonnes.
