Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud recently concluded a visit to French Guiana, where he wrapped up discussions with authorities there in the area of agricultural exports and research.
Talks on exports came against the backdrop of French Guiana’s current imports of food ranging between 60-70%, a press release from the agriculture ministry said.
Also on the agenda were forest management and support for Guyana’s Low Carbon Development (LCD) strategy.
Responding to an invitation from the Prefect of French Guiana, Persaud met with other senior government officials and explored the possibility of cooperation in the areas of agriculture and forestry. As an extension to this meeting, a team of senior officials from the French Government is expected to visit Guyana shortly to have follow-up discussions.
The release stated that the visit to French Guiana was part of a two-day visit to South American countries which saw the Minister lobbying for greater cooperation and support for agriculture and forestry research.
