President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday on behalf of the PPP/C administration extended congratulations to Leader of the Opposition, Robert Corbin, on his successful campaign to retain his place as party leader of the PNCR, and consequentially leader of the Parliamentary Opposition.
At a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon said that the message was sent early yesterday, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a release.
According to Dr Luncheon, the administration anticipates that the renewal of the mandate given to Corbin, in the face of criticisms within and without the party, may indeed allow him to lead the party in a truly patriotic and national manner, resisting the appeals of some to political adventurism and extremism, particularly at this time in the history of Guyana.
The administration expressed the hope that Corbin will be able to re-engage his party in pursuit of more productive partnerships in response to the challenges in Guyana, the release said.
