The senior selectors of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), as mandated by the executive committee, have commenced early preparations for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County four and one-day tournaments.
After calling 36 players to trials, the committee last Tuesday held a 50-overs-a-side trial match at the Albion Community Centre which was won by Assad Fudadin’s side.
Fudadin’s XI won the toss and inserted Sewnarine Chattergoon’s XI to take first strike dismissing them for 198 in 50 overs.
Karamdat Bissoondyal scored an even 50 while Jonathan Foo, Eugene La Fleur and West Indies selectee Royston Crandon made 35, 28 and 21 runs respectively. Bowling for Fudadin’s XI, off-spinner Stephen Latcha took 4 for 39 and national left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, 2 for 40.
In reply, Fudadin’s team struggled to 199 for 9 in 49 overs to win by one wicket. West Berbice’s Arthley Bailey scored 26, Rajiv Ivan, 36, Devon Clements, 24 and Permaul an unbeaten 24. National Under-19 off-spinner Alex Amsterdam had figures of 3-34 and Devendra Bishu 3-27.
