SOUTHAMPTON, England, CMC – West Indies discard Omari Banks grabbed three wickets for Somerset to help limit Hampshire on the opening day of their Division One County match on Thursday.
The off-spinner, who has not played for West Indies in four years, finished with three for 79 as Hampshire reached 286 for four at the Rose Bowl.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, openers James Adams and Liam Dawson posted 104 for the first wicket to send Hampshire on their way nicely.
The left-handed Adams stroked an unbeaten 113 off 284 balls with 21 fours while Dawson hit 55.
Banks secured the breakthrough for Somerset when he trapped Dawson lbw, but Adams and Michael Lumb (68) added a further 131 for the second wicket.
The 27-year-old Banks prised out Lumb and then also accounted for Sean Ervine (4) as Hampshire lost three wickets for 14 runs in the space of six overs.
