Guyana came out on top of the international category at this year’s 55th Guyana Police Force Annual Athletic Championships with Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados second and third respectively as the event climaxed yesterday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
And, in competition among the various division of the local police force Headquarters (HQ) came out on top followed by ‘A’ Division, ‘B’ Division and ‘C’ Division in that order
The final day of competition began with a grand opening ceremony which was followed by a march past of the athletes and an acknowledgement of the presence of Commissioner of Police Henry Greene and Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee.
Once the competition got underway however it was eventual male champion athlete Trevor Scotland who was to command the most attention.
Scotland did an outstanding job on the track equalling the 400m record of Ray Fraser which was set in 1998 when he clocked 51:20s.
Second place was occupied by Mark Edwards of ‘B’ Division who clocked 51:30s while HQ’s Winston George placed third in 51:80s.
Top female athlete Leota Bobb won the 100m and 400m women’s final and was adjudged champion female along with Samantha Williams of ‘A’ Division.
During the closing ceremony Greene said he was pleased to have competitors from Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago taking part.

“I’d like to give special congratulations to Guyana and the winning team, Headquarters for their outstanding performance this year. It is also great that the overseas teams could take part and I know this will continue in the years to come.”
Sponsors were also recognized during the closing ceremony for their contribution in providing trophies and cash prizes.
