-one admits third case in court
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Monday ordered that two teenage boys, 17 and 13, who had been charged with separate incidents of larceny, be kept in police custody.
The thirteen-year-old had pleaded not guilty to larceny from the person charge while the 17-year-old had pleaded guilty to a similar charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The thirteen-year-old denied that he stole a gold band, valued $59,000 from Devon Abrams on August 17. He will make another court appearance on September 8.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old boy had admitted that he stole a gold chain valued $120, 000 from Petula Anjay on August 27. He will make another court appearance on September 27.
Prosecutor Dennise Griffith had stated that “this is the fourth time for the year that he (the 17-year-old) is coming here for something like this.” The teen, however, said that it was “only the third time.” He said that he did snatch the chain from the woman’s neck but that as he was fleeing the scene another boy tripped him down and stole the chain. The prosecutor then informed the court that the chain was not recovered. Probation reports are expected to be prepared on the boys for the next court appearance.
