Police still mum over Dookie abduction

Police are yet to indicate whether they have managed to locate the city house where Rorhema Dookie, daughter of Kitty businessman Beharry `Natoo’ Dookie, was kept for approximately 24 hours by her abductors last week.

Rorhema had just exited classes at a school on Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg last Wednesday night at about 8 pm when she was abducted by three men who forced her into their waiting vehicle. Joel Oudkerk, the girl’s boyfriend, had been waiting for her and was hit twice by one of the armed abductors.

Shortly after her abduction, reports had said, a ransom had been demanded from Beharry. However, last Thursday night sometime around 8 pm Rorhema told this newspaper that she was dropped off at the East La Penitence Police Station by a woman. Beharry had insisted that a ransom had not been paid for his daughter’s return.

Rorhema could not tell Stabroek News last Thursday night where her abductors had taken her but said she was placed in a room with a mattress on the floor where she spent Wednesday night and most of Thursday. She’d said that she wasn’t tied up or treated badly. Last Thursday evening, Rorhema had related, a woman burst into the room and asked her who she was but she did not want to give her name because she was scared. The woman then dragged her out of the house where several people soon gathered and she was taken to the police station by another woman.

Beharry, when contacted by this newspaper yesterday afternoon, refused to comment. He stated that he had nothing more to tell the media about his daughter’s abduction and subsequent release.

This newspaper had also learnt that following Rorhema’s kidnapping on Wednesday night her boyfriend, Oudkerk, was taken into police custody. Oudkerk, sources had reported was forced to seek legal counsel on Thursday and the High Court subsequently issued an order for his release from police custody. Efforts made to contact the young man since have been futile.

Meanwhile, Stabroek News visited the East La Penitence area last week but residents there said that they only learnt that Rorhema was being held in a house somewhere in the vicinity when they saw the newspapers.
