(Barbados Nation) Barbados’ tourism industry is in line for more developmental aid from the Organisation of American States (OAS).
Secretary general José Miguel Insulza made the disclosure during a Press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
“We have supported the country in matters of tourism and training, also in the development of tourism policy and we think that that’s the main contribution we can make,” he said.
“That’s a very important source of income for Barbados and for the Caribbean countries. We are going to increase some of our contributions to some of those programmes . . . and have them approved as soon as possible.”
He also said the hemispheric organisation would try to “give more volume to Barbados’ participation in programmes we have for the whole of the Caribbean”.
These programmes were in areas including tourism and the environment, he reported.
The Press briefing followed discussions which the secretary general held with some members of Cabinet.
