Digicel Guyana customers will now be able to talk to each other as well as Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) mobile and landline subscribers for just $10 a minute from the very first minute; the lowest price ever offered.
The company yesterday introduced the new offer which will allow customers $10 per minute for calls to Digicel or GT&T mobile or to landline numbers, and 10 cents for a text message to other Digicel numbers. This offer, Digicel said in a press release yesterday, deepens the competition in the local telecommunications market when the new rates are compared to GT&T, whose trade rates are $23/$20 per minute (peak and off peak respectively).
Digicel opined that their new offer is better than GT&T’s $1 per minute promotion which allows their customers to pay $1 per minute after talking for 10 minutes. They noted that their competition’s promotion only applies within their network.
Digicel Guyana’s Head of Marketing, Donovan White, said that “in a deepening economic recession, people are constantly looking for better value for every dollar and cent spent. In Guyana, the $10 note and 10c coins are not even in circulation anymore and therefore have no value. What this offer does, is allow our customers to call any number in Guyana (whether on the Digicel Network or that of the competitors), for $10 per minute from the first minute and text any Digicel number for 10c. To activate these rates, our customers must follow two very simple steps. (1) dial *110# from their Digicel mobile and (2), follow the instructions on the reply message and you are ready to talk and text for the lowest rates in Guyana.”
Digicel subscribers have to pay to access this new deal. A 1-day plan that costs $110 and a 5-day plan that costs $510 are available to customers. Digicel customers who need more information about the service are advised to call Customer Care on 100 from their mobile.
