Dear Editor,
In the Stabroek News edition of March 16, 2006 I wrote a letter captioned ‘Linden should honour this hero.’ Again in December 2008 I repeated my call in a letter headlined ‘Rudolph Mitchell should be honoured.’
Today with great pride I write to publicly congratulate the ‘King of race-walking,’ Rudolph Mitchell of Linden, on his great achievement of 100 local consecutive wins.
With a deep passion I call on President Bharrat Jagdeo, the Ministry of Sport, the National Sports Commission and its great and hardworking Director of Sport, Mr Neil Kumar, the GOA and AAAG as well as the business community of Guyana and the whole of Linden and the Region 10 community to come forward now and give Rudolph Mitchell some quality assistance and recognition.
The Tradewinds once taunted ‘Show Me Your Heroes.’ Let us show off this hero now. Rudolph Mitchell must receive the recognition and laurels accorded to other equally successful athletes. I also would like to say a special thanks to the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club for keeping the sport of race-walking alive, even although it is not treated as having equal importance with other sports.
The executive of the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club should continue to push the sport, because one day it will be surely be recognized.
God bless you Rudolph and now work for your 150 wins, most overseas.
Yours faithfully,
Elaine Ward
