PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Guyanese striker Collie Hercules scored to help fire Tobago United to a 3-1 victory over Police in their First Citizens Cup qualifier at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.
In a battle of the two last placed teams on the Digicel Pro League table on Tuesday night, Hercules opened the scoring for Tobago in the 19th minute, but midfielder, Curt Danclair drew the lawmen level eight minutes later to leave the scores even at 1-1 at the interval.
Nine minutes into the second-half, Benjamin Dottino regained the lead for Tobago and six minutes later discarded national defender, Dwayne Jack sealed the win with a header.
Tobago United’s win set up a meeting with Defence Force in one of two qualifying round matches on September 11.
It was the second time this season that Tobago had defeated Police in a play-off match for a Pro League knockout competition, following their win on penalty-kicks in the qualifying round of the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield Tournament earlier this year.
The other qualifying match next week will see St Ann’s Rangers and FC South End doing battle.
The top six teams in the league at the end of round two, match-day nine were all guaranteed quarter-final spots.
