We would like to thank Mr Kumar (‘Express mail not express’) and Ms Field (‘Problems with GPO’s express mail’) for bringing their concerns and experiences to our attention in the August 27 and September 4 editions of Stabroek News.
The Guyana Post Office Corporation is committed to ensuring all mail, including express mail, is conveyed and delivered in a timely manner. We thus take this opportunity to apologise to the writers for any inconvenience and emotional turmoil experienced.
We wish to advise that each day our postal administration dispatches mail to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, for conveyance to the various destinations. Since we are not the owners of an aircraft we depend heavily upon the operating airlines to successfully facilitate the conveyance of mail. And so after mail leaves the airport and moves through the various transit points we are further dependent on the various postal administrations in the respective countries to deliver mail expeditiously.
There are therefore various factors outside the control of the GPOC that may at times cause delay in the delivery of mail. These may occur in any given postal administration and when they do we try our best to decipher where the disruption in the system may have been (as in the case of issuing an enquiry) so that we may seek to have redress as soon as possible.
We therefore wish to reassure the public that the Guyana Post Office Corporation remains committed to doing everything possible to ensure mail continues to be conveyed and delivered in a timely manner.
